Subsidised Dental Care in Singapore: How to Lower Your Out-of-Pocket Cost
Nov 6, 2025
If you’re comparing dental costs in Singapore—from wisdom tooth surgery cost to dental implant cost or root canal cost—you’re not alone. This page explains, in plain English, how CHAS dental subsidies, MediSave (for eligible surgical procedures), and Baby Bonus (CDA) can help, and when it makes sense to use each option. We’ll also show you how Shuang Dentistry makes the claiming process simple, so you can focus on getting well.
Start with the problem, not the plan
Before anyone talks about claims, we start with diagnosis. Many treatments look similar on Google, but the right plan depends on what’s actually going on—whether that’s an inflamed nerve that needs a root canal, an impacted wisdom tooth that needs surgical removal, or a missing tooth where implant placement could restore function. A proper exam and X-rays tell us:
Is the procedure surgical (often MediSave-claimable) or non-surgical?
Which items are subsidisable under CHAS for your card tier?
For children, which parts are payable by Baby Bonus (CDA)?
Only then do we map costs and claims line by line, so you know exactly what you’ll pay before treatment begins.
Overview of Singapore’s National Schemes
CHAS / Merdeka / Pioneer: helps reduce fees for selected items such as consult, scaling and polishing, fillings, X-rays, and simple extractions.
MediSave (CPF): applies to eligible surgical dental procedures such as surgical wisdom tooth removal, dental implant insertion, incision & drainage, and biopsies. (Prosthetic parts like implant crowns are generally not MediSave-claimable.)
Baby Bonus (CDA): can be used for children’s dental treatment at Approved Institutions.
At Shuang, we combine these sensibly (within scheme rules) to minimise your cash top-up.
CHAS dental subsidies
Who is the CHAS dental subsidies for?
CHAS helps Singapore Citizens receive subsidised dental care at participating clinics like ours. More information about the CHAS scheme here.
Depending on your CHAS tier — Blue, Orange, Green, Pioneer, or Merdeka Generation — you can receive discounts on treatments such as:
Scaling & polishing
Fillings and extractions
Dentures
X-rays and consultations
How to qualify:
Simply present your CHAS card and our staff will process your subsidy right at the counter - you’ll only pay the balance after the subsidy is applied.
How to use CHAS dental subsidies funds for dental care
Bring your card and NRIC; we’ll confirm your tier and show you which items are subsidised at your visit. Orthodontics (e.g., Invisalign) and cosmetic whitening aren’t subsidised.
Good to know: CHAS can also offset supporting items in a larger plan—e.g., consult and X-rays on the day we plan your care.
MediSave: the big lever for surgical items
Who is MediSave for?
For surgical or more complex dental procedures, you can use your Medisave funds to offset treatment costs.
Often MediSave-claimable:
Surgical wisdom tooth removal
Dental implant surgery (placement/removal)
Incision & drainage for a dental abscess
Biopsies of oral lesions
Not MediSave-claimable (examples): routine cleaning, non-surgical fillings, implant crowns/bridges, braces, cosmetic whitening.
How to use Medisave funds for dental care
You can claim between $250 to $2,850 per procedure, depending on complexity, directly from your CPF Medisave account. Our team will guide you through the claim process at the counter - no paperwork hassle, no delays. We’ll handle the submission for you.
We’ll explain your Table of Operations code (which affects claim limit), estimate the MediSave deduction, and show your cash balance clearly.
Baby Bonus (CDA) for children’s dental care
We love seeing little smiles! As a Baby Bonus Approved Institution, parents can use their child’s CDA (Child Development Account) to pay for dental visits. This applies to both routine check-ups and treatments for children.
How to use CDA funds for your baby for dental care
Your child’s CDA funds can be used like cash — just bring your Baby Bonus NETS card, and we’ll process payment directly.
CDA can typically be used for children’s check-ups, scaling and polishing for kids, fluoride varnish, fissure sealants, fillings, X-rays, and extractions when necessary. We’ll confirm eligibility during the exam and process CDA payment at the counter. Bring your child’s ID and your CDA card/bank app.
