At Shuang Dentistry, we specialize in creating beautiful, durable, and natural-looking dental crowns and bridges in Yishun. Whether you have a cracked, decayed, or missing tooth, our skilled clinicians can restore your smile’s form and function with custom-made restorations that are designed to last.

A dental crown, often called a “cap,” is a custom-fitted restoration that completely covers a damaged or weakened tooth. It is designed to restore the tooth’s original shape, size, strength, and appearance. A dental bridge, on the other hand, is used to replace one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants.

When is a Dental Crown Needed?

A dental crown may be recommended for a variety of reasons, including:- To protect a weak tooth from fracturing

  • To restore a tooth that is already broken or severely worn down

  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn’t a lot of tooth left

  • To hold a dental bridge in place

  • To cover a misshapen or severely discolored tooth

  • To cover a dental implant

  • To make a cosmetic modification

Types of Dental Crowns

We offer a variety of materials for dental crowns, each with its own unique advantages:

  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal (PFM): These crowns have a metal substructure for strength and a porcelain exterior for a natural appearance.

  • All-Porcelain or All-Ceramic: These crowns provide a natural color match and are an quality choice for front teeth.

  • Zirconia: This is a very strong and durable ceramic material that can be used for both front and back teeth.

  • Gold Alloys: These crowns are extremely durable and require less removal of healthy tooth structure. They are often used for back teeth where they are not visible.

A dental bridge is a fixed restoration that is used to replace one or more missing teeth. It consists of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap—these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth—and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

The Benefits of a Dental Bridge

  • Restores your smile

  • Restores the ability to properly chew and speak

  • Maintains the shape of your face

  • Distributes the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth

  • Prevents remaining teeth from drifting out of position

The Crown and Bridge Procedure at Shuang Dentistry

The process of getting a dental crown or bridge typically requires two visits to our Yishun dental clinic.

1. First Visit: During the first visit, we will prepare the abutment teeth by removing a portion of the enamel to allow room for a crown to be placed over them. Next, impressions of your teeth are made, which serve as a model from which the crown, pontic, and bridge will be created by a dental lab. Your dentist will make a temporary crown or bridge for you to wear to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the bridge is being made.

2. Second Visit: During the second visit, your temporary crown or bridge will be removed and the new, permanent crown or bridge will be checked and adjusted, as necessary, to achieve a proper fit. Multiple visits may be required to check the fit of the metal framework and bite. This is dependent on each individual’s case.

Caring for Your Crown and Bridge

With proper care, a dental crown or bridge can last for many years. This includes regular brushing and flossing, as well as routine dental check-ups and cleanings. It is also important to avoid chewing on hard foods, ice, or other hard objects, as this can damage your restoration. If you have a cracked, decayed, or missing tooth, we invite you to schedule a consultation at Shuang Dentistry. We will be happy to discuss your treatment options and help you determine if a dental crown or bridge is the right solution for you.
